Maybe you have always dreamed of a big wedding, an event where a couple of hundred people would drink, dance, and share your special day with you. However, in the era of social distancing due to the COVID-19 outbreak, organizing such a large party simply isn’t possible (or even safe). This is one of the reasons why destination weddings are becoming more and more popular. If you and the person you wish to share your life with can see yourselves saying your vows in some charming place with only a couple of your closest loved ones, consider destination elopement. This kind of wedding can still be as romantic as much as you want it to be, it won’t present a health risk and at the end of the day, you will be married to your soulmate. Maybe planning such an event sounds even more complicated than planning a wedding for 300 guests in your hometown, but don’t worry. Here are a few tips that will help you organize your special day like a pro.

Get help

If your budget allows it, hire a wedding organizer who will help you plan the whole thing. An experienced planner will easily suggest potential wedding locations based on your interests and connect you with local vendors who have great reputations. They can also create a complete itinerary for you and your spouse to be so that this whole experience feels like a vacation. If a planner isn’t in your budget, find a resort with a well-informed on-site coordinator.

Notify your guests

Unless you are planning to pay for the whole thing, you need to notify your guests in advance, so they could save money (and the date) for your big day. After all, plane tickets can be pricy (especially in the time of Corona when the number of seats is extremely limited) so you need to give your loved one’s a heads up.

Don’t let your dress out of your sight

You can easily shop at Moon Magic and find the perfect wedding ring without leaving your home, and the same goes for your hairpiece. However, your wedding dress is something that you’ll try on several times and get tailored to make sure it perfectly compliments your figure. Losing it during your trip will make you want to cancel the whole thing, so it is better to keep it with you at all times (even it means stuffing it in your carry-on luggage).

Think locally

In order to cut costs, try to incorporate local flowers and specialties into your wedding. For example, if you are getting married in Tuscany, grape leaves could give your venue and your bouquet that special something and local food could be a thing you will remember for the rest of your lives.

Find an affordable hotel

Although it is your special day, keep in mind that your guest might not be willing to splurge their life savings on it. Therefore, instead of a fancy, five-star hotel, find something more affordable. After all, during the COVID outbreak a lot of people have lost their jobs while others are worried about their future, so try to lower the costs as much as possible.

Check it out

It would be great if you would be able to check out your wedding venue before the big day to make sure there are no unpleasant surprises (some places look magical on pictures, but are a real disappointment when you see them with your own eyes), but if two trips are simply not possible to make sure you arrive there at least a few days early. This way you will be able to make sure everything is in order and fix what needs to be fixed.

Now go on and plan your dream wedding!
