At a recent company meeting, the idea of feeding the brave individuals who’ve been putting their lives on the line every day in our area’s hospitals and medical facilities was mentioned and Blazing Bagels owner Dennis Ballen thought this a very worthy cause.

The challenge: With business down so dramatically the last 5 weeks, it made the expense of donating much more difficult to swallow.

“When our business is running normal in all areas – retail, catering and wholesale – we are more than able to make donations at a very high level,” Ballen said. “But with what’s happened revenue-wise to most businesses during this uncertain time, it’s made it way more difficult.”

The solution: start a GoFundMe campaign. So, Fueling the Frontline with Bagels for the Brave was born on Friday, April 17th, with the goal of raising $30,000 to help fund this cause. In five days, nearly $1,400 has been donated. An anonymous local Eastside angel donor has pledged to match the first $2,500 in contributions.

“We just want to help feed as many of those folks out there on the frontline, risking their lives every day for us, as we can,” Ballen said. “It’s something we take a lot of pride in doing, helping those who we believe have worthy causes. Now, we’re hoping to get a little help from those who wouldn’t mind helping us with a worthy cause – fueling our frontliners!”

By donating to this campaign, it helps pay for the brave health care workers at the UW Medical Center (Seattle), Evergreen Hospital (Kirkland), Overlake Hospital (Bellevue), Swedish Hospital (Seattle and Issaquah), Harborview (Seattle) and Providence (Everett and Renton).
