Crystal is a creative young woman who feels misunderstood and sometimes discovering your individuality and uniqueness requires venturing out on thin ice. The show starts with Crystal falling through the ice to an alternate world where she is able to transform the different environments in her life with the power of her imagination. With this new power she is able to find her true self.
As the show continues, an extreme hockey game takes place on the pond at her neighborhood playground. Ramps are brought out onto the ice where skaters do crazy flips, twists, and jumps. The scene then turns into a giant pinball machine!
The swinging poles are new to the Cirque stage, and the synchronized pole work and pole-to-pole jumps were breathtaking. It really showcased the strength of these performers.
My friend Rachel and I loved the scene where couples swirled and waltzed together on skates, as the set and costumes were beautiful. Next, Crystal transforms the park into a ballroom where her suitor appears from above and whisks her away on aerial straps. The choreography and music in this scene made it our favorite, with a girls dream of being swept off their feet like that.
The live music at Cirque shows is one of my favorite parts and the musicians in this show did not disappoint. Cover versions of well known songs were specifically recorded to give them a Cirque touch and the music really plays a part in making the story come alive. Some of the musicians even skated while playing!
The only thing missing from this Cirque show was the iconic big top that they usually perform under. The tent gives the shows a special circus feel that creates a little extra magic to the overall experience.
CRYSTAL finishes it’s limited run at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett tomorrow! Buy your tickets TODAY!
