Atlas Obscura, the definitive guide to the world’s wondrous and curious places, has some interesting and intriguing events coming up for June and July 2018!
Cephalopod Movie Night with Science Friday
They’re quick, they’re clever, they’re masters of disguise and every year public radio program Science Friday dedicates a week to celebrating them. Cephalopod Week, Science Friday’s annual celebration of some of the smartest, most interesting invertebrates on Earth, is back, and Atlas Obscura and Science Friday are teaming up to make it a total cephalo-party. Join us for an evening of talk, tentacles, and merriment, featuring four original short films from Science Friday at the Swedish Cultural Center. This evening is your chance to rub elbows with Science Friday Executive Director, Danielle Dana, and a special guest—and ask them anything you want to know about these amazing, adaptive, and sometimes creepy creatures. You’ll join other Atlas Obscura Society members and Science Friday listeners for this very special screening, and engage in riveting conversation as you enjoy scenes of giant octopus attacks from vintage cult film.
Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Masterworks From the Henry Art Gallery’s Print Collection
Join Shin Yu Pai, Head of the Atlas Obscura Society Seattle, for a special visit with Benjamin Levy, print scholar and former Assistant Curator of Collections and Academic Programs at the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington. In this 90-minute program, we’ll visit with Benjamin to view masterworks from the Henry’s print collection and learn about the birth of the printed image in the Renaissance. We’ll consider the “unique multiple,” the technical aspects of these images, and the role they played in the spread of information and artistic development. We’ll have an opportunity to closely examine these works of art—some created over five centuries ago—that have newly been acquired by the museum and have never been on view.
