Cupcake Royale Teams Up with Rapper Draze and Runway to Freedom

What do cupcakes, women, hip-hop music, and domestic abuse have in common? Nothing. Unless you’re in Seattle and you meet local rapper Draze , who wrote a rap, Seattle Sweeties, about the uniqueness and diversity of Seattle women and approached Cupcake Royale with a just-as-interesting proposal…team up with Seattle’s local business, Cupcake Royale, and raise money for a cause near-and-dear to both of them, domestic abuse.

Draze explains, “Being a homegrown artist, I can appreciate the uniqueness of the women of this region. They’re energy is not like women from New York or Los Angeles. I can only describe it as ‘very Seattle.’ With this track, I tried to capture a piece of their mystic.”

Cupcake Royale, thrilled with the idea, created a cupcake series inspired by the names that Draze coined in his song. Among the delicious new flavors are: Choco Latte, Vanilla Dream, Chai Cinnamon, Caramel Delight, Lemon Cherry Blossom, and Banana Cream.

“We created each cupcake to be beautiful, classy, interesting, sweet, balanced, approachable, innovative, a bit sassy, colorful, and independent,” says Nicki Kerbs, Chief Operations Officer at Cupcake Royale. “As the project evolved and we learned there was an opportunity to raise awareness for domestic violence with Runway to Freedom, the project took a whole new meaning.”

Runway to Freedom is an annual charity fashion show and auction that benefits Mary’s Place. Mary’s Place operates five homeless shelters and provides access a variety of social services. It is a place where domestic abuse survivors can reclaim their life in a safe and supportive setting and work for their future. Every year, approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 are physically assaulted by an intimate partner in the United States. Many of these cases are never reported to the police. In Washington State 19% of women and 9% of men reported experiencing domestic violence during their lifetime.

There are two fantastic ways to support Runway to Freedom and Mary’s Place. One is to purchase one of these delicious specialized cupcakes from November 1 through November 22 and a portion of the proceeds will go to support Runway to Freedom.

The second way to support these causes is to attend Runaway to Fashion fashion show, concert and auction fundraiser on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Herban Feast SoDo Park. It will feature Northwest musicians, designers, and surprise celebrity appearances by Kimberly Nichole (8th season of the Voice), Seattle Hip hop artist, Draze and Jairemie Alexander.
